Kū Mai Ka Hula is an international hula competition that currently connects Japan and Hawai‘i. It is intended to bring together the winners of various competitions from throughout the world.
The competition had its debut in Japan in May 2006 and will occur at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on October 7, 2006 in the Castle Theater. The winners of the Kū Mai Ka Hula competition in Tokyo will join competitors from Hawai’i in three main divisions. There will be performances for Ms. Hula Maui, Wahine Group Kahiko and Auana, and Kupuna Group Auana divisions. Additional divisions such as Kane Group are anticipated in the upcoming years.
Currently all Hawai‘i hālau are invited to participate and compete in the first Kū Mai Ka Hula being held in Hawai’i. For more information, please contact Hokulani Holt-Padilla at hokulani@kauahea.org. |
