Pā‘ūO Hi‘iaka was formed in 1976 by Kumu Hula Hōkūlani Holt-Padilla on the island of Maui. It is a hālau hula or hula school dedicated to hula and its related subjects. Hōkūlani believes that hula touches all Hawaiian cultural knowledge.  It is through hula that one can learn about cultural protocol, plants, chant, stories, Hawaiian values and philosophies, health practices,  adornments, clothing, and so much more.  Hula is more then dance, it is a way of life. Over the years Pā‘ū O Hi‘iaka has participated successfully in a variety of hula competitions such as the King Kamehameha Day Competition, Merrie Monarch Festival, Queen Ka‘ahumanu Festival Competition, and Maui Mall Hula Competition.

In addition the hālau has also participated in numerous cultural gatherings, ceremonies, workshops, conferences and performances. It remains actively involved in hula, Hawaiian culture and its community.

Pā‘ū O Hi‘iaka has classes for adults in kahiko (traditional hula) and auana (contemporary hula).  If you would like to find out more about Pā‘ū O Hi‘iaka and hula classes, you can call Mikahala Helm at 242-8183 or email.
